Got Served?
We’re honored to share more with you. When you received that act of kindness this summer (water bottle, car wash, repairs on the house, neighborhood party…however you “got-served”) there were no strings attached.
We didn’t take your money (some of you tried to offer). You probably even heard that phrase…”no strings attached.” That is exactly how God’s love comes to us. But here’s the interesting thing about that kind of love. Let’s face it. We all have flaws. There are things I just don’t want others to know about me. It makes me wonder… “If God can love me despite my flaws and accepts me right where I am…then this kind of love makes me want to take a second look at the story of God. Maybe I need to get in on this story.”
Someone once shared a conversation with me that is written in the Bible. John, one of the guys Jesus hung out with explains that …“This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.”
You see, the Summer of Service team believes that you were designed to be in an intimate relationship with God. You were designed to serve others (that’s why you feel good when you serve others…you were made to do it). When something get’s in the way of that intended relationship with God we feel like something is not working right, things are not clicking in life. We just described sin. Sin is anything that gets in the way of our intimacy with God. The Bible says that all of us have junk that gets in the way of that relationship with God (Romans 3:23) and that if that junk is not dealt with it will lead to separation from God forever (Romans 6:23). This junk is ripping us off from a greater story God intended for you and for me.
Bottom line… there is a greater story available to you.
